Do Whales Judge Us? Interspecies History and Ethics, a talk by Associate Professor Bathsheba Demuth

This talk provides the historical context of commercial whale hunting and contrasts this with the Indigenous customs that frame when and how whales are targeted. The imagery and descriptions are thoughtfully discussed to emphasise the themes addressed, and it is particularly relevant to the ethical questions arising from this transition decade for sustainable development and climate change.

Promoting Indigenous Voice- Farms. Food. Future. IFAD Podcast

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (“IFAD”) has a podcast series and this important episode focuses on global Indigenous communities, highlighting the steps that are being taken to meaningfully include these communities within IFAD’s projects, amidst the threats of climate change and conflicts. The presenters highlight that IFAD is the first international financial institution that incorporates free, prior and informed consent as a criteria for project approval, facilitating active participation of Indigenous communities in the development of projects. Some highlights to also appreciate are music from Sudan, an interview with a South African chef and the contrasting emotions arising from mangrove tree seedlings being planted in Bangladesh.

The podcast can be accessed on the IFAD website here.
